CASUARINA SCULPTURE WALK
An outdoor sculpture competition is held every two years at Casuarina, just along the beach from the coastal village where I live. Artists are invited to submit work which is then installed along the board walk & in the parks. This piece really grabbed my attention in 2006, & ,actually, really unsettled me. Sorry, no idea who the artist is.
If you go to Casuarina Domain & click on "sculpture walk" in the drop-down "Activities " menu, you can see some more past winners.
To see more SWF pictures, & read a very thoughtful post about 'taking time', visit the home page for SkyWatch Friday.

Hi Cabacurl - can't download your photo as my pnone line is really bad today and of course now its 8:30 everyone is arriving at work it is terrible!!! Will try later tonight.
Hello and thank you for visiting my site. This is an interesting picture. Thanks for sharing it with me!
I love art and I love this Skywatch entry! Thank you for sharing it and thank you for sharing how it made you feel! That is what art is suppose to do!
Oh my gosh, I was surprised! Great shot on this one... I loved how the sculptor presented the emotions on his sculpture.
My SWF photos are posted in these blogs:
Jenn Was Here and Shutter Happy Moments.
Please drop by if you have some time. Thanks.
Brilliant choice of shot, and so differant.
I like this photo very much. The colour on the sculpture seems to imitate the clouds in the sky behind it. The lighting is really nice too the way it lights up the face.
Thanks for visiting my SWF!
Really unique and interesting photo. I like it - and the sky behind it.
Thanks for stopping at my blog.
What a unique skywatch - what fun!
Cabacurl: A super job of choosing this photo for SWF.
Interesting skywatch choice. Good photo.
Kind of a sad looking guy. His curls look like the clouds in the sky. Great choice.
Love the perspective. A great skywatch, even if HE is not watching the sky. Maybe he is contemplating what he just saw in the sky. :)
thanks for the visit. i can see why this piece would unsettle you. there is something so classic and human in the face and expression.
The curls on the statue head actually blend pretty well with those fluffy white clouds behind it :)
Have a bless weekend!
Thanks for dropping in on my SWF.
Yes, this is quite a sculpture. The shot is great with the blue, blue of our sky and the soft white cotton balls floating around it.) At Currumbin beach we have once a year, those "pret a porter" sculptures along the beach. It is fantastic all the different artistic works. Great blog. Love the photos of Townsville.
Hey C.B.C.R, I had to do a double take to go to the sky. And sure enough, it is a beautiful one as background for your sculpture! I like it. Happy Skywatching, thank you for your visit to storms-a-comming sunrise.
..
BTW,on the beach, my vote:
1. Vane
2. Two Brothers
3. Gift of Land and Sea
Do you think any of the prisonors are making some of this art?
I too am a retired teacher, my beach is 80 miles away.
..
an original idea for the s w f!
i'm curious cabacurl - why does it unsettle you??? (the sculpture, that is)
Wonderful image: the little clouds seem to adorn the sculpture.
Great Sky Watch.

What a fascinating pic! The blotchy textures on the sculpture seem to complement the sky textures! beautiful!
How utterly unique! Fantastic!
that sculpture is kind of mesmerizing. your sky is so blue, it is very beautiful!
nice shot!
What a great idea for the SWF! Nice job!
Thanks for a nice comment on my blog. It's a very interesting photo! When I saw it for the first time, I thought it's Julius Cesar sculpture.
Very nice. You couldn't have picked a better sky background for the sculpture!
Hi Caba! 2008.08.08 is a very special day for Blogtrotter. So, before I start commemorating, let me just tell you how much I appreciate your comments on my blogs! Thanks a lot!
Beautiful picture!
Have a great day and a wonderful weekend!
Very cool picture! How fun!!
Wonderful framing of the statue against the blue sky!
cabacurl, your response to my question on my blog was very touching. how insighful of you to see how it's connecting to your life and - a mark of a good artist as well for the sculpture - who is able to reach out and make you see the commonality between you and his/her art? a good sign of art, in my opinion, helps us look at our own lives.
thanks for sharing. have a good weekend!
I like the way the light shines on his face...it looks like he/she has one eye open..nice shot
I'm wondering why you found it so unsettling?? It's a sad and serious face but perhaps it is also the pose that we can't see in the photo?
Fantastic Sky Watch picture:O)
Very nice how you captured the feeling of imposing statue and its roughness.
Happy sky watching and NHB!
Great swf sculpture and sky.
Excellent! Art in art! It's pretty nifty how you captured this statue to contain it's expression via light and shadow! Well done!
Cheers, Klaus
It's fantastic.
The sky and the sculpture are resembling!
Beautyful post!
Dear Caba!
The music in the movie of Death in Venice is Mahler whom I simply adore.Except it makes me weep buckets.
I'm a great sap for weepy movies.
That's a beautiful sky. I love the way you took the photo... neat perspective!
Hah! I did not realise that you were into Skywatch, too. Goodo ...
This is a great shot and I really like the sculpture. It looks as though it is already covered with moss and fungus. I can understand why you might find it unsettling - he does look gaunt and wasted and psychologically distraught. Howevert, on the other hand, he bears a distinct likeness to Percy Grainger.
Beautiful sky,and a nice sculpture.Sorry I`m late,but I have been away.Thanks for visiting!
