Kev Carmody

This was my CD of 2007. It was seldom off my CD player for more than one day...I kid you not. I had known about Kev Carmody,an Indigenous singer/song-writer for ages, and had always valued his skills in opening up this white-fella's eyes to the Aboriginal perspective of life's experiences. But, to hear his songs re-interpreted by a broad collection of other Australian singers, was a further revelation.

When my sister and I were in Sydney for Mum and Dad's 60th, we just about knocked everyone over in our rush to get tickets for the concert performance of the CD, as part of the Sydney Festival. Not everyone on the album was able to be there...missing,disappointingly, were the John Butler Trio, The Waifs, Bernard Fanning and Troy Cassar-Daley. Despite this ,we swooned all evening, danced in our seats( after being sternly advised there was to be NO dancing in the section of the theatre we were in), sang along with everything, and even our least-favourite tracks are now firmly placed 'up-there' with the rest.

Kev Carmody's webite is here, and you can also watch and listen to Kev and Paul Kelly via links on that site.

POSTSCRIPT to Wednesday's post about the Sorry speech......
Sally's blog has a wonderfully comprehensive post with links to various aspects of the day, as well as an astonishing photo montage. I urge you to visit her blog for Wednesday,13th February.

I think this may just be the next album I buy! Thanks for reminding me of Kev Carmody's great music.

Will think of you and the other True Believers when I'm in Tasmania. Love from Helen

You will need to convert me. I'm afraid I am a rusted-on classico who rarely strays far from ABC-FM. However, there is hope as I own a Tracy Chapman - wrong country, right style. Am I close?

I am listening to him on YouTube as I am writing this comment. Thank you for mentioning him and allowing me to know him.

You mentioned in a comment on my blog that you have loved classical music since you were about 6. Post about this. How can you nominate that age? Why classical? And if Kev Carmondy is the other end of your spectrum, what is in between? Do you create any music of your own? I will try to come up with a post along similar lines.

Well, I'm listening to him on YouTube. Not sure if I could be moved to listen that often as I'm a classical listener too! But thanks!

Yes, we're so close to Kitchener/Waterloo! I think only about 10 miles from here.

We're certainly having a very cold winter this year too. Thanks so much for visiting the Guelph blog!

Sandy Hollow - really! Denman reaches back to my childhood. We moved to a farm which we named "Dolwendee" and which is close to the Myambat turn-off on, from memory, Merriwa Road. We lived on the farm from '56 to '61 and then I spent 'til '65 in Denman itself before moving to Newcastle to go to university. In 2002, we three children took Dad back there for a weekend as it now has farm-stay cottages. He had not been there for nigh on 40 years.
